Indiana: Mayor Sharon McShurley, Others to Lobby for Sallie Mae (Muncie Star Press)
"The hell with student loan reform: We're talking about jobs here. That's the message Mayor Sharon McShurley and other officials -- including representatives from the Hamilton County town of Fishers -- hope to communicate when they travel to Washington, D.C., this month to lobby Sen. Evan Bayh on student loan reform with a goal of saving hundreds of Sallie Mae jobs," the Muncie Star Press reports. "McShurley and Scott Faultless, president of Fishers Town Council, are scheduled to meet with Bayh on Nov. 19, the mayor said. Fishers and Muncie have the largest Indiana offices of student lender Sallie Mae, with 700 in the Muncie debt management center and 1,600 at the Fishers location. 'These are actual jobs, with hundreds of people in Muncie taking home a paycheck every week,' McShurley said."
