Michigan: Senate Votes to Eliminate Michigan Promise Scholarship (The Detroit News)

"The state Senate today passed a bill that would eliminate the Michigan Promise Scholarship and cut funding to an array of college financial aid programs. The measure passed by a vote of 19-17, but the differences with the House and governor's higher education recommendations will have to be reconciled," The Detroit News reports. "The bill that passed today calls for the elimination of the Michigan Promise Scholarship, a $140 million merit-based award that more than 96,000 college students are counting on this fall, and a significant funding reduction for need-based financial aid programs."
