Colleges' No-Loan Aid Policies Aren't Easy to Uncover, Study Finds (Chronicle of Higher Education)
"The 'no loan' financial-aid policies adopted by some elite colleges in recent years have been much debated in higher-education circles," Chronicle of Higher Education reports. "A key question: Do the lower-income students and families who have the most to gain from such policies know they exist? That question is explored in 'Showing Them the Money: The Role of Institutional Financial Aid Policies and Communication Strategies in Attracting Low-Income Students,' a paper that will be presented here on Friday at the College Board's annual conference. Its authors argue that while such programs are meant to eliminate financial barriers for low-income, high-ability students, this information is not adequately communicated to them or their families."
