5 Financial-Aid Tips for After the Freshman Year Begins (The Chronicle of Higher Education)

"Counselors and colleges make a big push to encourage incoming freshmen to apply for financial aid. But the financial-aid process hardly ends with the start of freshman year," The Chronicle of Higher Education reports. "Students have to meet certain criteria to remain eligible for aid, and must pay attention to how any debt they take on affects their time in college and beyond. At a session of the College Board Forum [in New York] on Friday, David R. Gelinas, director of financial aid at Davidson College, explained what everyone who works with students should know about financial aid. 'We want to get all the financial-aid issues behind someone so the student can enjoy the experience' of being in college, Mr. Gelinas said."
