Connecticut: Student Loan Foundation's Chief Ousted (Hartford-Courant)
"The board overseeing the troubled Connecticut Student Loan Foundation has removed Executive Director Mark Valenti after allegations that he was trying to make unapproved severance payments to himself," Hartford-Courant reports. " 'The board voted to discharge him immediately for cause,' said Michael Meotti, commissioner of higher education and one of three remaining members of the loan foundation's board. 'We had been advised by senior staff that during the previous 48 hours, Mr. Valenti had instructed the agency's human resources department to make severance payments to him based on his own interpretation of his employment contract ... The figure was certainly in the six figures,' Meotti said. The board met late Thursday."
