More Students to Receive Financial Literacy Training as NSLP Increases Team of Financial Literacy Experts

August 3, 2009 -- NSLP is pleased to announce that all 11 of its regional business development directors have passed courses required to become accredited financial counselors through the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education (AFCPE), a professional organization that trains and certifies financial counselors and educators. This increases NSLP's cadre of accredited experts who can teach campus financial literacy programs to 16. NSLP believes it is unique in the student loan industry with over a dozen nationally-credentialed financial literacy experts to provide these critical services for students.

"By expanding our expert staff of financial counselors we can offer crucial money management training to even more college students," says Randy Heesacker, President of NSLP. "Now, more than ever, today's young adults need to understand how to manage money in order to be successful in their financial lives and achieve their dreams."

More campuses across the country are expressing a need for experts to teach their students financial skills. In 2008 alone, NSLP's experts helped nearly 4,000 students learn valuable skills that help them in their daily lives, and more importantly, help them manage their finances so they can successfully repay their student loans.

Simultaneously, NSLP has been teaching financial aid professionals the skills they need to effectively interact with students about their personal finances. NSLP's financial counselors have trained dozens of financial aid professionals, including helping 17 become accredited financial counselors.

The rigorous, nationally-recognized AFCPE Accredited Financial Counselor Program provides in-depth training on budgeting and managing cash flow; credit use; insurance; savings and investing; and income tax and estate planning basics. The program also teaches valuable counseling skills such as interviewing, discerning real issues, suggesting solutions, motivating clients and implementing action plans.

NSLP is also well-known for helping schools with financial literacy and default prevention efforts.
