November 3, 2009 – The Nebraska Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NeASFAA) and National Student Loan Program (NSLP) are joining forces to provide college students at 18 campuses across Nebraska with vital information and tools they need to make sound financial decisions.
Throughout the week of November 9-13, on college campuses throughout Nebraska, NSLP’s accredited financial counselors will deliver financial education seminars to college students during the award-winning “Nebraska Financial Literacy Week.”
“It’s important to provide our college students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in life,” says Dale Brown, NeASFAA President. “But it’s also important to give them the information and tools they need to be successful in their financial lives.”
Students will attend seminars to learn about budgeting, the basics of money management, avoiding identity theft, understanding credit scores, and frugal living on a college budget.
Students who participate in Nebraska Financial Literacy Week will also have the opportunity to learn more financial management skills by using NSLP’s Financial Literacy Online, a convenient, comprehensive online learning center that includes free courses on budgeting, contracts, credit cards, credit history, identity theft, financing education, insurance and starting a business. Students who successfully complete courses will be eligible for a drawing for two $500 college scholarships.
Last year “Nebraska Financial Literacy Week” won an award for outstanding service to students, parents and families from the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. The goal of “Nebraska Financial Literacy Week” is to enhance the money management skills of college students and raise public awareness about the importance of a sound financial education for young adults. NSLP and NeASFAA believe it is more critical then ever that college students have the information and tools they need to make good financial decisions that will help them achieve their dreams.
