Certain populations face unique challenges when trying to answer certain questions on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). NASFAA has updated and expanded its tips for foster youth to include tips for other special populations that could get caught up on certain FAFSA questions. NASFAA's "Special Populations: Tips for Completing the FAFSA" (PDF) highlights questions on the 2010-11 FAFSA which may cause difficulty for these students and provides answers to common questions that these students may have.

The tip sheet includes answers to questions from:

  • single parents
  • wards of the court
  • foster youth
  • emancipated youth
  • homeless youth and more.
