Congratulations!  You are a federal SMART grant recipient.  Your financial aid has been updated on our system.  No action is required by you, but I encourage you to review your updated 2006-07 financial aid award at <link to award on institution’s Web site>.

Federal SMART grant recipients must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Be a federal Pell grant recipient each term.
  2. Be a US citizen.
  3. Be enrolled in a full-time degree seeking program.
  4. Declare a major in qualifying areas.  This link provides the details: <link to SMART grant information on institution’s Web site>

Please be aware that federal laws require review for compliance in the following areas at the conclusion of each semester/term:

  1. Your cumulative grade point average must be at least 3.0 at the conclusion of each semester.
  2. You must be actively engaged in one of the qualifying majors outlined in the link above.
  3. You must be enrolled as a full time student and receiving federal Pell Grant dollars each term.

If you do not meet each of the above criteria each term, your federal SMART grant is cancelled for the following semester/term.  Please understand that this is a very structured federal program.  The college has no latitude in our ability to award these dollars.

The SMART grant is only available one time during the junior year and one time during the senior year.  This means if you have earned at least 95 credits to date, 2006-07 is the only year you are eligible for the award regardless if you graduate Spring 2007 or not.  For students with 60 – 94 hours, if you do not complete at least 95 hours during the 2006-07 academic year, you will not receive the grant for the 2007-08 academic year.

If you have further questions regarding this additional grant award, please contact me directly at 402.826.8260 during regular business hours or by e-mail at <link to email address>.

See you soon.
