NASFAA's Commitment to
Your Privacy
Thank you for visiting the Web site
of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).
NASFAA uses electronic information to contact its members and other interested
parties to provide information on national events related to the administration
of financial aid as well as information on NASFAA events, services, and
products.
NASFAA is committed to protecting
your privacy, and this notice explains NASFAA's information practices and
how your information is collected and used on NASFAA's Web site and elsewhere.
This notice is available at the bottom of most NASFAA Web site pages.
The details of this privacy notice
are shared with all NASFAA employees in order to protect the confidentiality
of your personal information.
Please note that this privacy notice
does not cover other Web sites operated by NASFAA such as StudentAid.org.
Visitor Access
Visitors can view the NASFAA home
page and most interior NASFAA Web pages without disclosing any personal
information.
Web site visitors who are employed
at NASFAA member organizations may access certain protected content by
using their work email address and a password, provided to them by NASFAA.
Emails (also refered to as usernames) and passwords are used solely to
access such protected content. Passwords are provided either at the request
of the member organization to which the visitor belongs or at the request
of the individual. Emails and passwords are stored in the NASFAA membership
database (see below for more information on the database).
Visitors to the NASFAA Web site are
not able to communicate with other visitors and cannot post information
to be accessed by other visitors.
Cookies
NASFAA uses cookies to store an individual's
email and password so that the individual does not have to reenter this
information each time he or she accesses a protected area of the Web site.
Cookies are also used to track how visitors are using the Web site through
the use of Web log analysis software. Cookies include the name of the individual
and his or her NASFAA membership ID number. No other personal data is stored
in the cookie and NASFAA does not link nonpersonal information stored in
cookies with personal data about specific individuals.
Personal Visitor
Information
NASFAA collects the personal information
that visitors may volunteer while using the electronic services on the
NASFAA Web site, such as completing a meeting registration form, ordering
publications, completing an electronic survey, or sending email to the
association. NASFAA does not collect information about visitors from other
sources, such as public records or entities, or private organizations.
Information that we collect from
our online services on the NASFAA Web site may include:
- Name
- Title
- Institution
- Address
- Phone and fax numbers
- E-mail address
- Credit card number, expiration date, and the cardholder's name
- Registration category, such as the type of membership held
by the individual's employer
Information submitted to NASFAA by
an individual acting solely in a business capacity is excluded from the
scope of this privacy notice.
Membership Database
The membership database contains
information submitted to NASFAA by a member organization on its membership
form or annual membership update. This information contains directory-type
data about individuals employed by a member organization (e.g., name, address,
phone, email). The database also includes information about an individual's
participation in certain NASFAA activities, such as service on a committee
or attendance at a NASFAA conference or workshop, as well as emails and
passwords for Web-based services if requested by the individual or the
member organization to which he or she belongs.
Information contained in the membership
database may on occasion be rented to other organizations for postal
mailings. Email addresses are never rented or provided to others. Organizations
must sign an agreement restricting the use of the mailing list information.
Additional
information and a copy of the mailing
list rental agreement are available from Membership@NASFAA.org.
Members may opt-out of promotional postal mailings
and emails from NASFAA and other organizations, by logging in to their myNASFAA
account, selecting the Demographic Information tab, and checking
the promotional opt-out box. More information about opting out is provided
below.
How NASFAA Uses Information Collected
via Online Communication
NASFAA uses the information provided
by individuals when using our online services to complete the specific
service transaction. For meeting registrations, a list of attendee names
and addresses may be made available to meeting attendees, sponsors, and
exhibitors; no other information is shared with outside parties except
to the extent necessary to complete that registration
For email correspondence not collected
via online services on NASFAA's Web site, the association routinely uses
the return email addresses to answer the email we receive. Such addresses
are not used for any other purpose and are not shared with outside parties.
How to Opt-Out of
Communication with NASFAA
NASFAA recognizes that most people
receive too many emails every day. In an effort to put more control into
your hands so that you can decide what you want (and don't want) to receive
from NASFAA, we have implemented several unsubscribe and opt-out options.
Today's News
NASFAA distributes Today's News each weekday morning via a one-way
listserv. Critical news updates are also sent using the listserv. Today's
News is a "subscription" and only members can receive it. Since Today's
News is a subscription, NASFAA members cannot opt-out. However, if you
wish to reassign or temporarily suspend your subscription, you have the following
options:
- Ask the primary contact
at your institution or organization to assign the Today's News subscription
to someone else at your institution or organization. The primary contact
can change membership benefit assignments in the Membership
Management area of the NASFAA Web site.
- Request the reassignment
of your Today's News subscription by sending an email to Membership
Services at Membership@NASFAA.org.
- For a temporary vacation
stop, log into your myNASFAA
account, select the Demographic Information tab, and check the box
next to Vacation Stop. To start receiving Today's News again,
simply uncheck this box.
All Other Emails
NASFAA uses
an email program called Informz to distribute surveys, special letters from
the President/CEO, updates from Membership Services, including dues renewal
reminders, and promotional messages such as Webinars announcements. Informz,
which links directly to NASFAA's membership database, gives you control over
the mailings you receive.
Promotional Messages
If you do
not want to receive promotional messages from NASFAA, you have two options:
- You can Opt-Out by
topic. For instance, if you receive an email about Webinars and you don't
want to receive any more, click the "Opt-out of Webinar Emails" link
at the bottom of the email message. You will continue to receive other
promotional messages, such as conference announcements. Every time you
get a new promotion, you will have the option to opt-out of that topic.
- You can stop ALL promotional
messages. Log in to your myNASFAA
account, select the Demographic Information tab, and check the promotional
opt-out box. By selecting this box, you will no longer receive any promotional
emails or mailings, but you will continue to receive important announcement
that are sent thru Informz or the mail such as letters from the President/CEO
and membership updates.
Note: Every message sent
thru Informz also includes an Unsubscribe Link. If you select the Unsubscribe
Link (rather than the opt-out link), you will never receive a message from
NASFAA via Informz. We strongly recommend that you do not select this link,
because you may miss out on important and time-sensitive information. Instead,
we suggest that you use the alternatives outlined above to better manage
control of the messages you receive.
If you have any questions
or want to re-subscribe (after unsubscribing), please contact Membership
Services at Membership@NASFAA.org or
(202) 785-0453 Ext. 1.
