Opening Session with the Capitol Steps

Sunday, July 8th
12:45 pm - 2:15 pm

Twenty-five years ago, the Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your day job!"), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience.

Since they began, the Capitol Steps have recorded 26 albums, including their latest, I'm So Indicted. They've been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, and PBS, and can be heard 4 times a year on National Public Radio stations nationwide during their Politics Takes a Holiday radio specials.

Closing Breakfast

Wednesday, July 11th
9:00 am - 11:00 am

Speaker: Congressman Tim Bishop

At the closing breakfast, the gavel will be passed to Michael Bennett in his capacity as the 2007-08 NASFAA Chair and NASFAA President Dallas Martin will address conferees giving his insight into developments taking place in student financial aid.

Congressman Tim Bishop of the House Education and Labor Committee will be speaking at the closing breakfast of the NASFAA Annual Conference. Bishop was born and raised in Southampton, New York, and worked at Southampton College for twenty-nine years before leaving his Provost position in 2002 to make his first-ever run for office. While working at Southampton, Bishop worked in almost every aspect of student life, including admissions and financial aid. Now in his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Bishop says he is fighting for middle class families and strengthening education.

Congressman Bishop earned a degree in History from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Long Island University in 1981. He and his wife Kathryn, founder and director of The Children's School Early Childhood program at Southampton College, have two daughters.

Given the recent legislative activity in both the House and Senate Education Committees, Bishop’s remarks will be especially relevant to attendees. He will conclude an incredibly useful and informative conference.
