What kind of need-based aid is available?

There are three kinds of federal need-based aid: grants, loans, and work-study.

The Federal grant programs:

  • Federal Pell Grant, and
  • Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG).

The Federal loan programs:

  • Federal Perkins Loan,
  • Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL), and
  • William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (also known as the Direct Loan).

The Federal work program:

  • Federal Work-Study
