NASFAA 2020 National Conference Cancellation Details

April 16, 2020

As NASFAA continues to adapt and respond to the new challenges brought by the novel coronavirus, we are committed to the safety of our members and staff. As such, the NASFAA Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 National Conference in Las Vegas this summer.

This was a very hard decision as we know how much NASFAA members need, anticipate, and look forward to the practitioner-based professional development and in-person networking that the NASFAA national conference provides. As of right now, all non-essential businesses on the Las Vegas Strip are closed, as ordered by the governor of Nevada. This includes the hotel where our conference was to take place. Additionally, health advocates continue to discourage non-essential travel, a suggestion that will likely remain into the coming months, and according to a recent NASFAA survey, most higher education institutions and companies have enacted travel bans that will persist through the summer months.

The Board is announcing this decision now to give NASFAA members and conference registrants as much advance notice as possible, and so that NASFAA’s staff may have the time it needs to work on valuable, alternative virtual training options for this summer.

If you registered for NASFAA 2020, please know that we are working on ways for you to apply your paid registration fee toward future virtual training opportunities and conferences, as well as a plan for providing refunds. We will contact all registrants by email no later than May 1, 2020, detailing how to proceed. This information will also be posted here.

The Aria Resort & Casino has cancelled all hotel room reservations that were made in NASFAA's room block. All room deposits — as long as they were booked through NASFAA’s conference portal — will be refunded via the original form of payment in the coming days, no action required.

We want to thank all those who registered for NASFAA 2020. Dedicated members like you are the lifeblood of this association and we are dedicated to supporting you, keeping you safe, and making sure you get the training you need, delivered the way you need it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support of NASFAA, and the financial aid profession.

Sincerely,

Paula Luff, 2019-20 National Chair
Justin Draeger, NASFAA President
