The session will cover the history, basic terminology, and key concepts of enrollment management. What is the admissions funnel? What offices might be included in an enrollment management organizational structure? How do enrollment management organizations evolve over time? Get answers to these questions and more.

11:00 am - 12:30 pm - Idea Lab 2: Components of an Enrollment Management Strategy

Location: Columbia 9 & 10

Speaker: Brent Shock, Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management and Director of Student Financial Services, Miami University

This idea lab is designed to review the elements that comprise an effective enrollment management plan. Marketing, communication, and aid packaging strategies will be explored. Expand this out to discuss looking at strategy from the perspective of different types of institutions.

2:10 - 4:30 pm - Idea Lab 3: Fiscal Challenges in Enrollment Management

This session is an introduction to the fiscal elements involved in enrollment management, including tuition, revenue, discounting, financial aid awarding philosophy, and fiscal budgeting. Presenters will discuss how enrollment management impacts the entire fiscal health of the institution.

Speakers: Craig Cornell, Senior Vice Provost for Strategic Enrollment Management, Ohio University & Dr. Forrest Stuart, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Director of Financial Aid, Furman University.
Moderator: Justin Draeger, President & CEO, NASFAA

This session will take current “hot” topics in enrollment management and have presenters debate differing viewpoints. Participants will then have the opportunity to discuss these topics in small groups and share their thoughts back to the larger group using polling software.

Knowing what data is available, what data is needed, and how to use data to predict outcomes and make informed decisions is an invaluable key to success in enrollment management. This session will provide an overview of national data that is available and will explore the institutional data that will be needed to ensure your institution is on its way to meeting enrollment, retention, and graduation goals.

1:30 - 3:00 pm - Idea Lab 6: Hands on Predictive Analysis

Location: Columbia 9 & 10

Speakers: Angela Johnson, Vice President of Institutional Research and Enrollment Management at Cuyahoga Community College & Brent Tener, Director of Student Financial Aid, Vanderbilt University

This hands-on exercise will have the participants build a realistic incoming class, balancing the various competing interests in the admissions process. Participants will be divided into different groups that represent different institution types and missions.

Speakers: Greg Thornburg, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, University of Arkansas Community College - Batesville & Cheryl Storie, Associate Vice President of Financial Aid, University of Maryland University College

There are many competing priorities for the time and attention of the enrollment management professional. Changing demographics, political pressures, rising tuition, pressure to improve retention, and demands to improve the next class are all examples of the daily tug-of-war. How do you prioritize when everything has priority? This session will include the opportunity for participants to share their pressing issues.
