NASFAA's P&P Builder Template Updated to Reflect ED Guidance

The Policies & Procedures (P&P) Builder, a module of NASFAA’s Compliance Engine, guides you step-by-step through the creation of a centralized, accessible policies and procedures manual. Due to the timing of the release of the P&P Builder template each year, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) may provide new guidance which affects the existing template. In response, updates will be made to the P&P Builder template.

On Febr. 28, 2020, ED's Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) issued an electronic announcement reminding schools of requirements of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and the enforcement of those requirements during annual compliance audits. While GLBA was signed into law in November 1999, with the increased use of technology in the gathering of student information and the process of Title IV aid, there has been a spotlight placed on the importance of cybersecurity. Section 2.4.5 of NASFAA's Policies and Procedures (P&P) Builder has been updated with this subregulatory guidance as well as additional, specific information on what should be included in the school's written policy. The homepage of the P&P Builder will also be updated regularly with guidance which schools should note but will not affect the P&P Builder template.
