Publication of 2021-22 Verification Data Elements and Required Documentation Delayed

By NASFAA Policy & Federal Relations Staff

The publication of the Federal Register notice announcing 2021-22 verification items and required documentation has been delayed by competing priorities, per the Department of Education (ED). ED staff did not provide an estimated date of publication, except that it intends to have it published before October 1, 2020. ED assured NASFAA that it expects no changes from the 2020-21 application year. See the May 24, 2019 Federal Register for the 2020-21 award year data elements and documentation requirements.

While the verification data elements and documentation may not change overall, the specific line items on tax returns will be different because 2020-21 will be the first application cycle to use the revised tax returns implemented in 2019.

Note: Due to the changes to the tax return line items, NASFAA hopes to get its 2019 Verification Data and Federal Tax Forms Comparison tool updated in the near future. The 2021-22 Tax Transcript Decoder will not be available until sometime in the fall.

Publication Date: 7/10/2020

The 2019 tax decoder was mentioned as being available on "Off the Cuff" from 11/12 but I can't find it on the site.
