Pop Quiz - Must Students Who Fall Under the 49 Percent Exemption for R2T4 Receive Exit Counseling?
Scenario:
A school has a group of students who have completed a module which encompasses 49 percent of the countable days in the term and, therefore, are exempt from having an R2T4 processed. Must these students receive exit counseling since they are considered to be completers?
Answer:
No. While the students may be considered completers of the term, exit counseling would only be required shortly before the student ceases half-time enrollment. Exit counseling is required if the student graduates from the program or the student withdraws without the school’s prior knowledge. In the case of a student withdrawal, exit counseling should be completed within 30 days. [See 34 CFR 685.304(b)]
