Pop Quiz - Can a Student Receive Federal Pell Grant in the Summer Without Utilizing Year-Round Pell?
Scenario:
A school has a Pell-eligible student who plans to enroll during the summer term. The student will be less than half-time. Summer is a trailer to the academic year. The financial aid administrator understands that if students are enrolled full-time in both fall and spring semesters, they may be able to obtain up to 150% of the Pell Grant but is there an instance in which students can enroll for less than six credits in the summer and obtain a portion of summer Pell Grant?

Yes. Currently, if students have not used up their first Scheduled Award of Pell (100 percent) in the fall and spring, they may utilize what remains in the summer. The provision that students must be enrolled at least half-time to utilize Year-Round Pell will go away effective with the 2024-25 award year.
