NEWS FROM NASFAA

Right before the Senate officially kicked off its summer recess, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) teed up the process to schedule a vote on James Kvaal’s nomination to serve as Department of Education (ED) undersecretary. The move to confirm Kvaal, which has faced delay since his committee approval back in April, will begin when the Senate returns from its August recess on September 13.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

The next New Director Group Coaching opportunity from NASFAA's Blue Icon Advisors starts September 13. This development and training opportunity is ideal for new financial aid directors with less than one year of experience at the director level. You'll build your financial aid leadership skills and develop a professional network of peers. Here's what Carlos Villarroel, associate director of financial aid at Portland Community College and June 2021 coaching participant had to say of his experience: "I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this group and will take lots away from it. All of the concepts were very eye opening and will allow for us to make simple changes quickly. I would say, this has been one of the most effective training groups I have been a part of." Sign up today to reserve your spot.

Hundreds of your peers have already volunteered to serve as mentors for fellow aid administrators and high school guidance counselors, speakers on diversity and inclusion issues, and speakers at high school events, financial aid meetings, or training events. Quickly locate a volunteer in your local area using NASFAA's Speaker and Mentor Professional Directory, which allows you to refine your search by name, state, or region, as well as by keyword and category, to find someone with the desired skill set. To offer your own services, log in to your myNASFAA profile and on the Directories & Settings tab use the checkboxes to indicate you would like to be included in the directory Speaker and Mentor directory and select which services you wish to volunteer. You can update your directory listing at any time.
