NEWS FROM NASFAA

Following a lengthy delay, the Senate in a bipartisan vote of 58-37 formally approved James Kvaal’s nomination to serve as Department of Education (ED) undersecretary. With Kvaal now installed, he joins ED amid the beginning stages of the negotiated rulemaking process — touching on regulatory issues concerning student loan lending and gainful employment — and will assist in the impending wind down of the federal student loan moratorium that will require ED to transition federal student loan borrowers back into repayment.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA's Leadership Conference was designed to deliver knowledge, perspective, and insight into management issues facing current and future financial aid leaders. After a one-year in-person hiatus, we're excited to welcome our members to Washington, D.C., February 14-16, 2022, for topic-specific training and networking. Take your pick of four leadership tracks — including the new Succession Planning track — based on what best meets your professional goals. Registration will open in October; keep an eye on Today's News for more information as it becomes available. In the meantime, you can review the pathway descriptions to learn more.

In general, it depends on whether the student is still enrolled or the 2020-21 award year and whether the school receives conflicting information while the student is still enrolled at the institution (currently or in future award years). View the full answer to this question to learn more.

This course covers the building blocks of Title IV program eligibility. Most financial aid administrators understand FAFSA processes, SAP, and enrollment information as components to determine student eligibility. But concepts such as academic year, payment periods, and program structure are sometimes misunderstood or even misapplied. Emerging academic program structures test the traditional basis of determining program eligibility and packaging students. Maintain confidence in compliance by completing this course. Upon passing the course, you will receive a NASFAA U Certificate. Register now.

For students and parents interested in learning more about financing an education beyond high school, financial aid nights can be an invaluable source of information. NASFAA's financial aid night toolkit has recently been updated with information for the 2022-23 academic year and is now available to assist NASFAA members in conducting or providing support for these presentations. In the toolkit you'll find a slideshow designed to give students and families a basic understanding of financial aid concepts, sources of financial aid, and the application process for federal student aid. The toolkit also contains a guide to planning and conducting a financial aid night, as well as updated versions of supplemental student and parent handouts to help you give a compelling and informative presentation. The content may be presented in person or virtually.
