NEWS FROM NASFAA

This week on "Off the Cuff," Justin is joined by NASFAA Policy Analyst Jill Desjean and NASFAA U Instructor David Tolman to catch members up on updates from the Department of Education. Specifically, Jill highlights new agency recommendations concerning updated guidance on institutional aid offers and David details new academic calendar formats and how institutions are navigating structures that don’t clearly fit quarter or semester structures. Hugh then has a quick update on what the NASFAA team is following on the student loan front, as well as the Biden administration’s Build Back Better agenda as it makes its way through Congress.

The final day of the Department of Education’s (ED) negotiated rulemaking subcommittee on prison education programs (PEP) was marked by contentious discussion and several negotiators expressing their displeasure with the entire process of working to craft regulatory language to present to the full committee. As was the case throughout much of the subcommittee’s work this week, substantive conversations were often offset by frustration from negotiators that their recommendations were not reflected in the proposed amendatory text the group was tasked with producing.

Join Us in Welcoming the Following Members...

Please join us in giving NASFAA's newest members — Central Oklahoma College, and Summit Academy OIC — a warm welcome. This month we also have the pleasure of welcoming the following schools back as NASFAA members: Denmark Technical College; Eckerd College; Hinds Community College; Hodges University; Los Medanos College; Mid-Del Technology Center; National University of Health Sciences; Wayne Community College; Westchester School for Dental Assistants; and Wilberforce University. We are glad to have all of you as NASFAA members. We encourage you to check out our Events Calendar for a look at upcoming professional development opportunities and to utilize NASFAA's Membership Directory, Speaker and Mentor Professional Directory, and Volunteer and Leadership Directory to help you better engage and connect with your financial aid peers across the country.

In NASFAA’s ongoing efforts to facilitate connection among members, recent changes to our directories offer new features to help you find financial aid peers near and far. With streamlined search tools and results sorting, the Membership Directory now also features financial aid management information, so members at schools that use the same software can connect on questions, best practices, or issues. Review your Membership Directory listing, and make sure to list your financial aid management system.
