NEWS FROM NASFAA

Considering the steep declines in enrollment amid the coronavirus pandemic, institutions and higher education stakeholders see the importance now more than ever to re-engage students who have left school without finishing. A new study from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) along with education company Straighterline seeks to better understand the disengaged student population and analyze the reasons and motivations behind their decisions to leave school, as well as provide recommendations to get students to re-enroll.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA would like to remind schools in the areas affected by natural disasters about existing guidance regarding the impact of a "major disaster" on the administration of the Title IV student assistance programs. Dear Colleague Letter GEN-17-08 and its attachment are intended to help Title IV student financial aid recipients and their families who are affected by a federally declared major disaster. We’ve watched with sadness the devastation caused by storms that tore across the U.S. last weekend, most especially in Western Kentucky. To those impacted, the NASFAA staff and our Board of Directors send you our thoughts and prayers for your safety and well-being.

Don't miss your chance to join us February 14-16 in Washington, D.C. for NASFAA's 2022 Leadership & Legislative Conference & Expo. There are just 10 seats remaining in the Compliance Management pathway, and the Association Leadership, Strategic Enrollment Management, and Succession Planning pathways are beginning to fill up as well. If you hold the FAAC® designation, be sure to check out the brand-new FAAC Forum. Learn more about the conference and the safety measures being taken, and register today to reserve your spot. Early-bird pricing ends tomorrow, Friday, December 17.

The December certification testing window has closed and the registry continues to grow! The Certified Financial Aid Administrator® Commission — an independent certifying body of NASFAA — has now certified a total of 293 financial aid professionals across the country who have earned the FAAC® designation. This designation recognizes the knowledge, experience, and dedication to ethical behavior that are the hallmarks of the financial aid profession. If you're interested in becoming certified, verify your eligibility using our free, interactive tool. The next testing window opens on Jan. 5, 2022.

View this on-demand webinar featuring NASFAA President Justin Draeger and Dr. Sandy Baum, a nonresident senior fellow for the Center on Education Data and Policy at the Urban Institute.
