NEWS FROM NASFAA

Sham Tzegai found her way into a fulfilling career in financial aid with her start as a work-study student in the financial aid office at Front Range Community College in Colorado. Her time as a work-study student helped her navigate all the challenges and obstacles a first-generation college student experiences, she said. Her work-study experience then turned into a full-time role at Front Range that she held for two years before going to her current institution — the Colorado School of Mines — as an assistant director of financial aid. For the last five years, Sham has served as the associate director of financial aid and scholarships. Learn more about Sham in the brief Q&A below.

A group of 16 colleges and universities are being sued, as five former students allege the schools colluded to determine financial aid offers for students, unfairly limiting financial aid offers by utilizing a shared methodology to calculate financial need, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court in Illinois this week.
