NEWS FROM NASFAA

Joan Bailey

Meet Joan Bailey. Joan is the director of financial aid at the University of South Florida (USF) Health Office of Financial Aid. In some ways, being the director there has brought her career full circle, as she got her start in financial aid as a graduate assistant at USF. Before wrapping up her graduate studies, she was hired full-time in the office as a financial aid counselor and enjoyed the fulfillment that came from helping students and decided to turn it into her career. “I realized that while working in financial aid, I was making an impact. I was able to guide students from the start of their financial aid process to the end of college,” she said.

In approaching the one-year anniversary of the enactment of the American Rescue Plan (ARP), which allocated about $40 billion in funding for higher education, the White House hosted a briefing with congressional leaders to highlight the law’s impact. Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.), chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor, underscored that the focus of discussions was to hone in on Congress’ accomplishments in responding to the earlier stages of the pandemic.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Attending the NASFAA National Conference for the first time can be an overwhelming experience, even more so if you are attending alone. We want attendees to have a great time and come back year after year. While NASFAA has always hosted a welcome reception for first-time attendees, we continue to look for creative ways to help first-time attendees connect with colleagues. All members of this task force will be required to attend NASFAA 2022 and participate in conference mentor activities prior to the conference and on-site. Please review the task force charter on the volunteer information page and if interested, complete the volunteer form by Thursday, March 10, 2022 at 5:00 pm ET.
