NEWS FROM NASFAA

The third day of the final session of the Institutional and Programmatic Eligibility negotiated rulemaking committee saw a consensus vote taken on the much debated gainful employment (GE) proposed regulations from the Department of Education (ED) take place despite frustrations from some committee members that sufficient time was not allocated to discuss such an important topic.

A pair of key congressional leaders are once again calling upon the Biden administration to offer another extension of the student loan moratorium, citing the pandemic, inflation, and supply change issues. Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.), chairs of the Senate and House education committees, in separate remarks called upon the administration to continue with the pause on repayment, collections, and interest accrual until at least 2023.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

There's no shortage of work in a financial aid office. Just ask Mary Sommers, the director of financial aid at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, who has worked in the field for more than 30 years. Between her professional career and personal life, Sommers manages to find time to contract with Blue Icon Advisors as an independent consultant, a role she says she enjoys due to the flexibility and being able to help aid offices — and by extension help students.  Blue Icon Advisors is looking for qualified financial aid and enrollment management professionals to join our team of independent consultants. We have projects you can complete in your spare time as well as interim staffing. Interested? Apply now!
