On Monday, Federal Student Aid (FSA) announced that due to timing constraints the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) functionality for the 2022-23 award year that is scheduled to be released on March 27, 2022 will include the 2022-23 Pell Grant payment and disbursement schedules that were originally released before the passing of the omnibus spending bill in early March that set the maximum Pell Grant to $6,895.

Now that the Department of Education (ED) has wrapped up its second negotiated rulemaking committee, NASFAA has combined its daily coverage into one standalone article detailing how the Institutional and Programmatic Eligibility committee wrapped up its work, highlighting where members reached consensus and detailing where significant disagreements remained.

Private college owners will be on the hook for paying the student aid bills of their students should loan forgiveness or discharge be warranted following school closures or borrower defense to repayment claims, according to an announcement from the Department of Education (ED) Wednesday. The new policy announced Wednesday aims to ensure companies that own institutions of higher education are held responsible for federal Title IV financial aid funds that are owed to the federal government following closures or findings of misleading practices.

Updates are in progress now for the Self-Evaluation Checklists. The checklists are designed to allow schools to audit themselves for the 2020-21 award year. The first checklists, Personnel and Interoffice Communication, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Appendix A and Appendix B are now available. Other Self-Evaluation Checklists will become available just in time for the end of the award year on June 30.
