NEWS FROM NASFAA

Members of NASFAA’s policy team gave a crash course Wednesday as they reviewed the various Title IV aid programs that financial aid offices administer. The webinar Wednesday highlighted the recent release of the 2021 National Student Aid Profile, an annual report from NASFAA that outlines the trends for each of the major federal student aid programs.

On Tuesday, the Department of Education (ED) confirmed to NASFAA that institutions should continue using the Quarterly Budget and Expenditures Report (QBER) form that is posted to ED's Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) reporting website for the calendar year 2022, first quarter report submission that is due on April 10, 2022. ED had previously published in the Federal Register a revised form — for which it had received emergency OMB clearance — but had not yet released an official final version. ED has indicated that it does still intend to revise the QBER form for the second quarter reporting period. Watch Today's News for more information as it becomes available.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Wednesday took action against student loan servicer Edfinancial Services for alleged deceptive practices regarding borrowers’ eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. CFPB in an announcement alleged Edfinancial “made a series of deceptive statements to borrowers about loan cancellation for public service,” including by incorrectly telling borrowers with Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) loans that they could not qualify for the program.
