A federal judge on Thursday granted preliminary approval to the Biden administration’s recently proposed borrower defense settlement that would discharge the loans of 200,000 borrowers who say they were defrauded by their institutions. The court will also allow more time for institutions or other parties to file motions to intervene.
This month, we're excited to hear from the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (SASFAA). Past President Celena Tulloss reports that the association completed the 2021-22 year with a very successful in-person return for the New Aid Officer Workshop (NAOW), which hosted 120 attendees from across the nine SASFAA states, as well as some from out of the region.
Yes. Under the statutory requirement, any postsecondary institution receiving federal funds must hold an educational program pertaining to the U.S. Constitution on September 17 of each year. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) does not dictate the content of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day programming. To assist institutions in this regard, ED simply recommends resources for information to provide. View the full answer to this question to learn more.
NASFAA's Rapid Response Network (RRN) provides timely feedback on student aid issues to NASFAA staff, which is then used in NASFAA's policy and advocacy work with Congress and the Department of Education. Communication is done through a listserv, and RRN members are asked to provide feedback relevant to their own institution or experiences. If interested, please use this form to apply to volunteer no later than 5:00 p.m. ET on Aug. 19, 2022. Please note, members who are already on the RRN Listserv from previous years will remain on the RRN listserv unless they ask to be removed.
