NEWS FROM NASFAA

Brad Barnett

Meet Brad Barnett, FAAC®, the associate vice president for access and enrollment management and the director of financial aid and scholarships at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., and NASFAA's 2022-23 National Chair. As Brad begins his tenure as national chair, he took some time to discuss with Today's News his goals for the next year and what inspires him as a financial aid professional.

This week on a special episode of “Off The Cuff,” Justin is joined by Andy Brantley, president and CEO at CUPA-HR, and Anthony Jones, executive director of scholarships and financial aid at the University of Utah, to discuss employee retention within the higher education sector, with a focus on financial aid offices. The group dives into some recent survey data, position classification systems, and walks through one office’s experience going through the reclassification process. Andy and Anthony also share their expertise with listeners on how to approach annual budgets and office operations.

The Department of Education (ED) often takes months to identify when a college closes and doesn’t always provide borrowers the information they need to obtain a closed school discharge of their federal loans, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found in a new report.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

In the meantime, schools should disregard Comment Code 132 if it applies to a parent on a student’s Institutional Student Information Record and continue with processing." Financial aid leaders have the high-stakes responsibility of awarding institutional and donor scholarships to optimize enrollment and student success. However, they are challenged by cumbersome processes, disparate data, unique and varied scholarship requirements, multiple stakeholders, and under-resourced staff. Join us on September 8 at 2:00 p.m. ET for a 60-minute webinar sponsored by Regent Education to explore a comprehensive, full life-cycle solution that automates and simplifies the process. This event is free for NASFAA members, but you must register in advance.
