NEWS FROM NASFAA

Once again, the student loan repayment pause is approaching its expiration. With less than 10 days until repayments are slated to resume, servicers are warning that the federal loan program will be in a “precarious position” if the administration attempts to announce an impending resumption of repayment with such little notice. However, reports began to surface on Tuesday — after the letter was sent — that the Biden administration plans to make an announcement to again extend the repayment pause and reveal a decision on loan forgiveness on Wednesday.

The Biden administration plans to make an announcement on student debt relief Wednesday, according to reports from Bloomberg and The Washington Post. According to Bloomberg, Biden is expected to extend the pause on loan repayments for at least four additional months through December 2022, but details of the announcement are not yet clear. Additionally, Biden is close to a decision on canceling $10,000 per borrower for those making under $125,000 a year, reports say. Stay tuned to Today’s News for more information.
