Opponents of President Joe Biden’s student loan debt cancellation plan are attempting to mount a legal challenge, with a borrower alleging that the move could directly result in their financial harm should the Department of Education (ED) automatically apply the discharge.

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Coalition, which NASFAA is a member of, sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging for the extension of the temporary PSLF waiver through July 2023.

A new longitudinal study gives insight into how the initial months of the pandemic impacted 2015-16 bachelor’s degree earners, with a particular focus on trends related to enrollment, student debt and repayment, work, and family experiences.

Tony Erwin, Blue Icon principal consultant, will be a panelist on The Chronicle of Higher Education’s "Innovative Financial Aid for Today's Student" forum this Thursday, September 29, at 2:00 p.m. ET. This virtual forum convenes higher education leaders and policy experts to discuss the current state of financial aid and strategies for assisting students. Topics will include the financial challenges facing students today, what the current government-funded emergency grants are achieving, as well as strategies for providing completion grants. Federal Student Aid (FSA) from 1-2 p.m. ET this Thursday, September 29, will be hosting a webinar focusing on recent federal updates as well as a number of stand-alone topics including recent regulatory changes, the administration’s student debt relief plan, and upcoming changes related to the FAFSA Simplification Act. According to FSA this webinar is intended for counselors, mentors, and college access professionals who are interested in learning about recent federal updates.
