NEWS FROM NASFAA

This week on "Off The Cuff," Justin, Karen, Megan, and Rachel discuss student loan debt reform recommendations NASFAA made with support from a grant provided by Arnold Ventures. The conversation touches on three main areas, which include how to improve student loan servicing practices, rethinking the terms and conditions of student loan repayment, and reforming student loan default.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, NASFAA is highlighting several Latino members and the work they do in financial aid offices across the country. We asked these members how their community helped or inspired them to work in financial aid. Read their answers.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Thursday published a new report detailing how partnerships between a small set of financial institutions and colleges and universities have promoted products that have garnered higher than necessary fees for students.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

If your goal is to become a financial aid director, we invite you to participate in a professional development opportunity designed especially for you, Aspiring Director Group Coaching, facilitated by Blue Icon Advisors. Over six weeks, you'll build leadership skills, network with your peers, and dig deep into enrollment management, compliance issues, and more. The next cohort is the only one being offered this fall and begins October 24 — register by October 21 to secure your spot!

Now through February 2023, our Advancing the Profession Task Force will collaborate to create a toolkit of resources for financial aid administrators, including communication recommendations for campus decision-makers, and professional development pathways. The task force volunteers will also recommend how to incorporate these resources into existing NASFAA products, services, and training opportunities. Are you looking to get involved at NASFAA? Visit our Volunteer Information page for available opportunities.
