NEWS FROM NASFAA

The last year has brought an onslaught of new challenges, but you're still getting the job done, and showing up to help and support students and their families. Read on to find out why we think NASFAA members are so awesome.

After the pandemic started many institutions froze tuition for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 academic years. But as the pandemic began to wane and students returned to campus, more institutions raised tuition and fees for the 2022-23 academic year than in the previous two years, according to an annual report on trends in college cost and student aid released Monday by the College Board.

President Joe Biden on Friday took to Delaware State University to deliver remarks on his student loan debt relief program, where he re-iterated the parameters of the plan and said that roughly 22 million borrowers have applied for the relief. Biden also indicated that the vast majority of those applications were completed on a mobile device.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Happy NASFAA Member Appreciation Day! Today marks 56 years since the founding of our organization, and to celebrate we ran a contest on social media last week to reward some of our members for all the amazing, hard work they do each day. To enter, members answered our NASFAA trivia for a chance to win a P&P Builder subscription for their school, one professional credential test of their choosing, or one NASFAA U online course registration. Congratulations to our three winners: Autumn Nordstrom of Hollins University, Matthew Uplinger of Maranatha Baptist University, and Danielle Duvall of Frederick Community College. Thank you to all of our members who participated — we celebrate you today, and every day.

With one possible exception (noted below), the only requirement for a borrower with eligible loans to receive forgiveness (cancellation) up to $20,000 under the student debt loan forgiveness plan announced by the Biden Administration is that the borrower received a Federal Pell Grant at any time and in any amount while enrolled as an undergraduate student. We need your great ideas for engaging, relevant, and interesting conference sessions. All types of session proposals are welcome, from those focused on advocacy, training, and professional development, to sessions structured as open-forum discussions. We urge you to construct your session proposal with an eye toward inclusion, ensuring speakers from different backgrounds — particularly those from marginalized groups — are represented. All proposals must be received by October 31, 2022. Visit our Presenters and Moderators page to submit a proposal.
