NEWS FROM NASFAA

The Department of Education (ED) on Tuesday released final rules on borrower defense to repayment (BDR), interest capitalization, Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), total and permanent disability (TPD) discharge, closed school discharge, and false certification. Effective dates are July 1, 2023, unless otherwise specified. This article summarizes changes from the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) issued in July.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Presenting at the national conference not only helps educate the next generation of financial aid professionals, but also provides you, the presenter, the opportunity to build your resume, highlight a topic or research project you're passionate about, or show you're ready to take the next steps in your career. NASFAA's Financial Aid Night Toolkit has recently been updated with information for the 2023-24 academic year and is now available to assist NASFAA members in conducting or providing support for financial aid night presentations. In the toolkit you'll find a slideshow designed to give students and families a basic understanding of financial aid concepts, sources of financial aid, and the application process for federal student aid. The toolkit also contains a guide to planning and conducting a financial aid night, as well as updated versions of supplemental student and parent handouts to help you give a compelling and informative presentation. The content may be presented in person or virtually.
