NEWS FROM NASFAA

NASFAA signed on to a letter sent by the American Council on Education urging the Department Veterans Affairs (VA) to delay the transition to a new enrollment management system for certifying GI bill benefits. The Education Service announced earlier this month that its current enrollment management system, VA-ONCE, will end on Jan. 13, 2023, and VA will transition to a new system, Enrollment Manager, by the end of January. The higher education organizations say that the rollout plan for the new system does not give enough time for campuses to prepare with less than three weeks. Additionally, January is peak certification period, which means there could be delays to veterans’ benefits, among other issues.

As we enter the peak of gift-giving season, it’s time to celebrate the greatest gift of all (wink, wink): NASFAA compliance tools! Being a member of NASFAA has its perks, especially when it comes to having access to numerous compliance tools at your fingertips. Here is a small sample of NASFAA offerings that can help you effectively administer Title IV financial aid programs.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

In an age of increasing accountability for the use of federal, state, and institutional student aid funds, institutions of higher education and their students must demonstrate that financial aid funds are being used to assist students in efficiently completing their academic goals. NASFAA's Monograph 25 on satisfactory academic progress (SAP) addresses each of the policy requirements to assist institutions in determining how "reasonable" their SAP policy is in ensuring compliance with the federal regulations while also promoting a campus culture of academic success for students. The monograph includes case studies, checklists, a glossary of terms, regulations, and other resources which will assist financial aid administrators in evaluating their institution's SAP policy. Access the monograph today to ensure your policy is in compliance.

The NASFAA Policy Update on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. ET will include the latest updates on what's happening in Washington related to student aid policy. The Policy Team will provide updates on Higher Education Act reauthorization, student aid funding, regulatory action, and close with a question-and-answer session.
