NEWS FROM NASFAA

While President Joe Biden’s student loan debt cancellation plan remains in limbo with the United States Supreme Court, House Democrats are doubling down on their own proposal seeking to address the underlying flaws in the student loan system. Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.), ranking member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, on Thursday formally reintroduced the Lowering Obstacles to Achievement Now (LOAN) Act, which was first unveiled in September 2022.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

There is no requirement in the statute or GEN-22-15 to provide breakdowns for three-quarter time, half-time, and less-than-half-time, or even single term enrollments, though that would be a good practice if you have those figures already. The full-time costs should be sufficient as long as they include a breakdown of the cost components beyond tuition and fees whenever tuition and fees are described on a website. Attending the NASFAA National Conference for the first time can be an overwhelming experience, even more so if you are attending alone. We want attendees to have a great time and come back year after year. While NASFAA has always hosted a welcome reception for first-time attendees, we continue to look for creative ways to help first-time attendees connect with colleagues. All members of this task force will be required to attend NASFAA 2023 in San Diego and participate in conference mentor activities prior to the conference and on-site. If this sounds like something that you would be interested in, please review the task force charter on the volunteer information page and complete the volunteer form by Friday, March 17, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. ET.
