NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

As severe storms impact several parts of the country, NASFAA would like to remind schools in the areas affected by natural disasters about existing guidance regarding the impact of a "major disaster" on the administration of the Title IV student assistance programs. Dear Colleague Letter GEN-17-08 and its attachment are intended to help Title IV student financial aid recipients and their families who are affected by a federally declared major disaster. In addition, certain individuals may qualify for assistance through updated waivers and modifications to statutory and regulatory provisions within the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students (HEROES) Act.

You know you need documented policies and procedures, but it's hard to know where to begin. Do I start with "low-hanging fruit" or the hardest areas? What will my auditor (or a federal program reviewer) want to see? Join us at 2 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 12, to learn tips, tricks, and strategies from the Blue Icon Advisors consulting team for how to start writing your policies and procedures. This webinar is free for members, but you must register in advance.

Please join us in congratulating Cristi Millard, FAAC®, formerly the director of special projects and compliance, financial aid at Salt Lake Community College, who is now a financial aid administrator at Western Governors University, and Nancy Chalker, who is now the head of campus development at Edly Student Loans. Celebrate your own career developments by completing the "Movers and Shakers" form to share the news with your colleagues.
