The Department of Education (ED) in an announcement on Friday said it would delay the institutional reporting deadline for gainful employment (GE) and financial value transparency (FVT) from October 1, 2024, until January 15, 2025.
On Friday NASFAA submitted comments to the Department of Education (ED) in response to its Request for Information on the 2025-26 FAFSA. ED has indicated it plans to make no substantive changes to the form itself from the 2024-25 aid year version, but is seeking comments on how to improve help text and suggestions on supporting materials ED can develop. NASFAA’s comments focused on the need for clear language in both question and help text wording, and also pointed out several areas we believe the FAFSA is inconsistent with changes to the HEA from the FAFSA Simplification Act.
Consensus? Proposed rule? Final rule? Early Implementation? Effective Date? NASFAA knows it can be hard to keep track of all of the moving parts involved with the rulemaking process, so we’ve created this chart to help our members follow the progress of the 2023-24 rulemaking process. We will update this chart regularly as needed.
This AskRegs Knowledgebase Q&A was updated on September 12, 2024 to change guidance previously provided by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) about the FAFSA signature page option. Yes, but the FAFSA signature page can only be used in the rare instances when the FAFSA contributor needs to provide a signature but their consent to retrieve federal tax information (FTI) from the FUTURE Act Direct Data Exchange (FA-DDX) is already done. At NASFAA's Breaking Barriers: Bridging Worlds in Prison Education and Student Advising, which convened in June 2024, the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) led a panel discussion exploring questions and practices in recruiting and admissions in higher education programs for students who are incarcerated. This webinar, on September 19 at 12:30 p.m. ET, continues that conversation. Reserve your seat today!
