NEWS FROM NASFAA

This week on “Off the Cuff,” Hugh, David, and Sarah discuss all things concerning professional judgment (PJ). David provides some key background information on PJ, including details on terminology and policy considerations for institutions. Sarah then catches listeners up on what is new for PJ in 2024-25, along with updates made due to FAFSA changes.

Both the House and Senate on Wednesday approved a short-term spending deal that would fund the federal government until mid-December. President Joe Biden signed the legislation into law on Thursday, averting a government shutdown.

NASFAA UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

NASFAA's award-winning Diversity Leadership Program (DLP) aims to advance the careers of individuals from marginalized and underrepresented groups in the association and create a strong and diverse pipeline for association leadership. Now in its seventh year, the DLP is seeking six new participants to receive a robust portfolio of benefits, mentorship, and guidance to aid in their development as financial aid leaders. If you are interested in the program, refer to the DLP webpage. If you know someone who would be a great applicant, send them a note of encouragement. Applications are due this Monday, September 30, 2024. Apply today before this year's application closes.

Join us for Voices of NASFAA on October 11 at 12 p.m. ET to honor Hispanic Heritage Month. For this episode, we’ll be speaking with Silvia Marquez, executive director of financial aid and scholarships at the University of California, San Diego. Silvia has more than 20 years of student service experience in higher education, including director roles in both financial aid and admissions. As Silvia shares her voice with us, we will also take time to reflect on what Hispanic Heritage Month means for our community and profession.

Please join us in congratulating Melissa Connell, Dede Gonzales, Ayla Arviso, and Jason Call on their promotions. Congratulations to Richard Boruszewski on his new job. Also join us in congratulating MorraLee Keller, who will retire in September after 44 years of working in financial aid, and Kimberly Stubbs, the 2024 Employee of the Year at the University of Central Arkansas. Celebrate your own career developments by completing the "Movers and Shakers" form to share the news with your colleagues.
