NEWS FROM NASFAA

This week on "Off The Cuff," Beth and Karen are joined by Jeremy Singer, the president of College Board, who earlier this year was hired by the Department of Education (ED) to serve as FAFSA executive advisor for the launch of the 2025-26 FAFSA. During the episode, Jeremy reflects on his tenure at ED, which ended earlier this month, and answers questions from Beth and Karen on the rollout of the 2025-26 form, including beta testing of the new FAFSA.  The team also discusses communication from the department to stakeholders on the launch of the 2025-26 FAFSA, and how ED rebuilds trust with the financial aid community.

Congressional leaders have unveiled a short-term spending deal that would fund the federal government until March 14, 2025. The bill is currently making its way through both chambers and will need to be signed into law to prevent a government shutdown set to take effect after December 20. However, obstacles to enactment remain, with President-elect Donald Trump opposing the bill, leaving House Republicans to reconsider the stop-gap bill.

In financial aid, how does a bill really become a law? And how do we implement it once it gets signed? To quote Schoolhouse Rock!, "While a few key congressmen discuss and debate whether they should let me be a law. How I hope and pray that they will, but today I am still just a bill." Join NASFAA for this webinar now available on demand to learn how we help bills cross the finish line and, more importantly, what happens once they do.
