This week on "Off The Cuff," Beth and Karen are joined by U.S. Department of Education Under Secretary James Kvaal. With just a little under a week until a new administration takes over, James discusses ED's priorities over the past four years, including FAFSA simplification and student loan debt relief. The group also digs into the upcoming gainful employment (GE) and financial value transparency (FVT) institutional reporting deadline.
In its final FAFSA update for the Biden administration, the Department of Education (ED) provided additional details on the number of forms submitted for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 application cycles, the upcoming availability of batch corrections, and said that the 2026-27 FAFSA remains on track for an October 1 release this coming fall.
The Department of Education (ED) has completed its 2025-26 FAFSA renewal communication, which took place from December 18-23, 2024. According to department officials, the annual campaign is conducted to remind students that the 2025-26 FAFSA is available and that the form should be completed soon. While ED has not yet published an electronic announcement indicating that this process has been completed, it is NASFAA’s understanding that students who applied for a 2024-25 FAFSA should have received communications through email reminding them to apply for the 2025-26 form.
This webinar, on January 22 at 2 p.m. ET, will review the 2025-26 verification data element and documentation requirements. It will also focus on some of the more complicated verification-related issues that come up year after year. Join David Futrell, NASFAA director of institutional compliance, as he leads you through the latest verification requirements and challenging issues. Reserve your seat today.
