“Melanie Storey has left the U.S. Department of Education, but she will not be stepping away from the political fray in Washington,” The Chronicle of Higher Education reports. “Storey, who served as director for policy implementation and oversight at the department’s Federal Student Aid (FSA) office for the last five years, will become the next president and chief executive of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.” Melanie took some time to chat with The Chronicle of Higher Education on Tuesday, where she discussed her background in higher education, explained the importance of a smooth federal aid process, and how she plans to work to ensure financial aid professionals’ voices are heard.
In February, NASFAA hosted its first Advocacy Pipeline of 2025. Two members – Deborah (Debbie) O´Dea from Pacific University, and Marla Bush from the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope – met virtually with congressional staffers from Oregon and Arkansas.
