A day after testifying before a Senate appropriations subcommittee on President Donald Trump’s fiscal year (FY) 2026 budget request, Education Secretary Linda McMahon on Wednesday continued to field questions from lawmakers on this budget, along with other issues concerning the Department of Education (ED).
The Department of Education (ED) released its annual updates to the Federal Need Analysis Methodology for the 2026-27 award year. This is the core formula determining a student's Student Aid Index (SAI), a key factor in student eligibility for federal financial aid programs like Pell Grants, Federal Work-Study, and Direct Loans.
Updates to the NASFAA Policies & Procedures (P&P) Builder for the 2025-26 award year will be live Friday, June 20, 2025. The 2024-25 P&P Builder template will remain available until archival on Monday, July 7, 2025. This functionality allows schools to finish any updates to their manual for the current award year. To move forward with updates to policies and procedures for the 2025-26 award year as soon as the template becomes available, within the tool, select “Start a New Manual.” This step is very important; there will not be a forced push to the new template until archival takes place at the beginning of July. Starting a new manual prompts rollover to the 2025-26 template. There is no need to worry; rolling over previous versions of your manual to the new template is quick and easy. Once the manual is rolled over, updates can continue.
