To maintain operations during a staffing shortage and backlog.

Situation

Glendale Community College in California experienced staffing shortages coupled with increased workload resulting in a backlog of records to process.

Solution

Blue Icon Advisors provided three part-time, remote consultants to assist with professional judgment reviews, Return of Title IV (R2T4) processing, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) evaluations, packaging adjustments, and federal verification. As the backlog decreased, Blue Icon reduced the number of consultants from three to two, and provided additional assistance in developing and updating online forms.

Outcome

"We're in better shape, not only in terms of workload, but we also have better policies in place because of our consultants," said Christina Tangalakis, FAAC^®, associate dean of financial aid at Glendale Community College. The varied experiences of the consultants also provided a "360 approach" to the work. By the end of the engagement, Tangalakis said the financial aid staff was "doing timely work, not work from the past. It was the best possible way to finish the engagement with Blue Icon."
