Case Study: St. Louis University

October 2025

Goals

A new financial aid leader wanted to ensure campus does not have any compliance risks and is operating effectively.

Situation

Alex DeLonis, assistant vice president of student financial services, was recently appointed the chief financial aid officer at St. Louis University. He noted that the University has not had a program review in several years and identified areas and processes that could place the institution at risk. Having a comprehensive, external review was critical to provide support for needed changes.

Solution

The SOE peer review team examined information from the school, administered student and staff surveys, conducted a site visit and interviews, tested student files, and provided a detailed report with observations. “I greatly appreciated connecting with campus partners throughout the process,” DeLonis said. After the review, SLU received an exit interview for the financial aid staff and requested a second presentation for campus leadership. “The support we were shown throughout the process by our partners and afterwards was not expected and thus appreciated.”

Outcome

“The SOE review was a solid investment for us,” DeLonis said. “We had a dream team that was well-respected by our campus. It was perfect!”

SLU is now engaged with Blue Icon Advisors to assist with writing their federal financial aid policies and procedures.
