Amy Bales is a Supervisory Auditor with the U.S. Department of Education Office of Inspector General, where she leads oversight of non-Federal audits and supports leadership-level oversight of the Department’s annual financial statement audit. She manages a nationwide team focused on strengthening audit quality, accountability, and the effective stewardship of Federal education funds. Amy has extensive experience with the Single Audit Act, Uniform Guidance, and OMB Compliance Supplement, and works closely with Federal partners and stakeholders to improve audit policy, consistency, and implementation across programs. She has served in Acting Director roles, providing leadership during critical periods, and represents the OIG in interagency discussions on audit and accountability issues. Her work is grounded in a commitment to ensuring that audit processes not only meet technical requirements, but also provide meaningful, actionable information to support program improvement at the State and local level. She is particularly focused on helping bridge the gap between audit requirements and the practical realities faced by grantees, including schools and program administrators. Amy is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner and has received multiple Inspector General awards for her contributions to audit quality and oversight.

Jeff has over 25 years of experience with ED-OIG Audit Services. He is a Senior Advisor with the Audit Operations Team and provides ED-OIG management and staff with subject matter expertise on the Title IV programs. Previously, Jeff was the Acting Director for the Higher Education Oversight Team and the Director of the Student Financial Assistance Advisory and Assistance Team. He joined ED-OIG in 1998 as an auditor in the Philadelphia regional office. Jeff is a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Government Audit Professional. He received a BS in finance from Rider University and an MBA from Thomas Jefferson University.
