NASFAA Presents: The Who, What, Why, and When of FAFSA Data Sharing

Session Type:

General Session
Navigating the complexities of FAFSA data sharing can be challenging, but understanding the rules surrounding access, disclosure, and usage is essential for maintaining compliance. Join NASFAA’s Director of Online Compliance Products Tiffany Gibbs, and Policy Analyst Sarah Austin, as they guide you through the critical aspects of FAFSA data sharing: who can access it, what can be disclosed, why certain disclosures are necessary, and when it is appropriate to share data.

Using real-world scenarios and the NASFAA Data-Sharing Decision Tree, Tiffany and Sarah will help schools make informed decisions about accessing, disclosing, and handling FAFSA data in full alignment with federal statutes and regulations. The session will begin with a review of key legislative points, followed by practical examples to illustrate how schools can confidently apply these rules in their daily operations. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to navigate data sharing scenarios and ensure they are meeting legal requirements while safeguarding student information.
