Eric Hardy joined the U.S. Department of Education (ED) office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) in 2009 and currently serves as the program manager for strategic planning and policy implementation. Hardy’s work includes serving as an advisor about higher education policy and ensuring that FSA’s operations are considered in policy development. He primarily focuses on loan policy; recent projects include implementing changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, the income-driven repayment plan account adjustment, the Saving on a Valuable Education repayment plan, and other loan-related regulatory packages for 2023 and 2024.
Before his current role, Hardy spent 15 years working on and managing the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS®) database. On the NSLDS team, he primarily focused on loan reporting from federal loan servicers, institutions, and guaranty agencies, as well as enrollment reporting from schools and institutions. Before his work at FSA, Hardy worked at three private universities and one trade school.
