NASFAA Staff Share Key Federal Financial Aid Information On Capitol Hill

NASFAA’s Policy and Federal Relations team hosted an event on Capitol Hill Wednesday to educate Congressional staff, members of the media, and organization representatives on the federal financial aid system.

About 30 attendees Wednesday learned about federal financial aid programs and applications from NASFAA’s Jesse O’Connell, Karen McCarthy, and Joan Berkes, as well as DME Fund intern Blondeen Philemond and NASFAA member Richard Heath, director of financial aid at Anne Arundel Community College. Director of Policy and Federal Relations Megan McClean also updated the crowd on the current policy environment, including ongoing sequestration cuts and activity surrounding reauthorization of the Higher Education Act.

All attendees received copies of the 2014 National Profile, a document full of statistics and information on the federal financial aid system. McClean stressed that the National Profile is just one way NASFAA can be a resource to staff on Capitol Hill, and that the organization is always happy to help provide information and context.

NASFAA members who weren’t in attendance can view the entire presentation as a Prezi, and can see photos of the event on Facebook
