FAFSA Glitch Could Affect College Plans for East Texas Students From Immigrant Families

"Technical glitches are causing problems for students applying for federal financial aid all across the nation," KLTV reports.

... "Senior Policy Analyst Jill Desjean with the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators explained why this issue poses a problem."

"'The gist of it is simply that the student can do their part. The parent contributor cannot do their part. And without both those pieces, the FAFSA is not completed.'"

"The form came out in late December, yet students just recently got a temporary work-around. They can now submit their incomplete forms through a nine-step process and come back to them once the Department of Education permanently fixes the issue. Desjean said the work-around really just serves as a placeholder."

"'The only thing it really does right now is it sort of gets their place in line.'"
